Baby Chicks

We got baby chicks again today. All the chickens except one from last year got eaten. So we are starting over and I am going to blog about it just like I'm going to with our garden, that way I know what worked and what didn't.
So I got 8 chickens, and I want to get some Guinea hens later. I got one of each of these breeds. Brown Leghorn, Golden Laced Wyandottes, Barred Rock, Black Astralorp, Buff Orphington, Araucana (these lay colored eggs), And a Speckled Sussex.
Right now they are in a rabbit pen that is covered with a space blanket and a tarp, with
a heat lamp. I have the thermometer in there it says it's 88 degrees on the outer
edges and between 100-95 degrees by the lamp.  This is the right temp for them now and since the bottom of the cage is mesh so even if the water spills they should be plenty warm.
That was our problem last year, that the water tipped over and they got wet and died.
Hopefully I've solved all the problems from the past and we'll see what pops up in the future.
